Planning Your Sewing Room |
|
Whether you are adding onto your home,
or reorganizing an existing space, before you start moving heavy
furniture, plan things out on graph paper. Measure the room, including
the placement of windows and doors. Using those measurements, make a
scale drawing of the room. I like to use four squares to the foot (each
square represents a 3" square), but any scale that makes sense to
you is fine.
Measure all the furniture you have for your sewing room and use the same size graph paper to draw the furnishings. For example, a bookcase would be a little rectangle, a stool would be a small circle. Be sure to include your waste basket and any storage furniture. Label each piece before cutting them out. Now you have little pieces of paper to move around before you test your back with moving the real things. Be sure to leave a little space between items (to allow for the baseboard or minor errors in measuring). Leave plenty of space to move around your cutting table. If you are thinking of buying a new piece of furniture, check the dimensions, make a paper pattern, then see if it will fit. Save these bit of paper in a large envelope in case you move to a different room or buy a new home. Next issue: classes, seminars, conferences and conventions |
