Classes, Seminars, Conferences and Conventions

This is the perfect time of year to plan to attend a class, seminar, conference or convention. Your local dealer may offer hands-on classes, which is a great way to meet fellow embroiderers who live nearby and to learn something new about embroidery.

A seminar is usually limited to a single topic, such as stabilizers, and is taught by an expert in the field, usually a vendor or company representative. This is the best way to gain reliable information about a specific brand.

A conference or convention is typically a multi-day event. Vendors let you see their products up close. Experts teach a variety of classes, but check to see if they are hands-on or lecture-type. Both are good, but it pays to know what to expect. Check to see if classes are included in the registration fees or if they cost extra. If the classes are hands on, be sure you know what supplies to bring. They may have embroidery machines available for use in class or you may need to bring your own.

A trunk show may be offered by your dealer, or may be part of the schedule of events at a convention or conference. Typically, one product line is promoted, either from a sewing machine company, a supplier or an embroidery designer. Items are often passed around, making this a wonderful way to see new products up close before deciding to buy. Trunk shows often offer special pricing on new products.

Whatever the event is called, be sure to check the specifics before signing up. Prepare to have lots of fun and to become energized about embroidery.
