Buying Thread Colors |
|
Spools of thread cost less if purchased online, but if you are buying only a single spool, the added cost of shipping will cancel any savings. And you have to wait for delivery. Plus, if you buy "in person" at the fabric store or your embroidery dealer, you can see the thread to be sure the color is perfect. When buying online, stock up on some of the colors you use most often, such as white, black, true red, green, grey, off-white and skin tones. Also stock up on pre-wound bobbins and other supplies to help justify the shipping cost. Most thread suppliers will sell you thread cards that have a length of each thread color wrapped around a card, so you can see exactly what the colors look like. Thread cards are especially helpful when buying various shades of the same color, or when you need an unusual color. If you are a beginner embroiderer, you might want to invest in a thread assortment. There may be thread colors that you will not use right away, but you won't be making a trip to buy more thread every time you stitch a new design. Be sure to sample the thread brand before investing in a large quantity, as some machines seem to prefer certain brands. Next issue: selecting thread colors |
