Buying Designs Online |
|
When you buy designs online, some
sites offer instant download, others email the designs and sometimes the
designs are mailed on a CD. How do you know?
If the description of the design does not make it clear how the designs are delivered (find for the words "instant download", "email" or "CD"), look for a FAQ page (Frequently Asked Questions). Still not sure? Email the designer or site owner. If designs are delivered by instant download, and the download does not work, email the website owner. Tell her your order number, and list the designs (use the same name as on the site) and your format so she can email the designs. If the designs arrive as an email attachment, you will need to save the attachment. This is usually accomplished by clicking on the icon that shows there is an attachment, but the exact process varies depending upon your email service (Outlook, Outlook Express, AOL, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, etc.). If you do not know how to download an attachment, look for a help file in your email service and follow the easy steps. Designs are usually delivered as a zipped file. When you unzip the file, it is like unwrapping a present. The designs are still in the zip file. Unzipping just lets you see what they are. To use the designs, you need to extract them from the zip file, which copies the designs to your hard drive (or thumb drive or CD). Often the zip file will also include informational files. These may be a simple text file and a graphic image, or a pdf file that combines both. You will want to save these files, as they usually include the thread colors and any special instructions you may need. But do not try to send one of these files to your embroidery machine, as it will give you an error message. If you use your embroidery software to unzip a file, and you get an error message, try unzipping with a different unzipping tool, such as the one built into Windows XP, Vista or WinZip.
